## Open Top Wedding Cars in Cardiff: what you are booking

### What open top wedding car hire is
A chauffeur-driven wedding car with a roof that comes down, hired for the fixed moments of a wedding day: the journey to the ceremony, the photographs afterwards and the drive to the reception. The roof is the reason people book it, an open car changes every photograph taken around it, and it is the one vehicle guests reliably gather beside.

It is a small-party vehicle. The couple, or the bride and whoever is giving her away, rather than the whole wedding party. Guests and bridesmaids usually travel in one of our limousines or on a party bus alongside it.

### Who books it
Couples marrying in and around Cardiff who want the traditional wedding car arrival, and couples whose photographer has asked for an open vehicle. It is also booked for anniversary celebrations and vow renewals.

Where a couple wants something more unusual, our Excalibur wedding cars cover that end of the fleet.

### When it is needed
On the day itself, around three fixed points: leaving for the ceremony, the photographs after it, and the move to the reception. Those three points are usually separated by less time than anybody expects, which is why the timing plan matters more than any other part of a wedding car booking.

Wedding season in South Wales concentrates into Saturdays from May to September, and those dates are the ones that disappear first.

### Why the roof, and the weather question
The roof down is the point of the booking, and Wales is Wales. An open top car is still a car with a roof, it goes up when it needs to, and the photographs at the venue can be taken with it down during a dry spell even if the drive itself was covered.

Talk to us about the plan rather than hoping. A day planned around 'roof down if it is dry' works; a day that assumes sunshine in June does not.

## A wedding day has no second attempt
Every other booking we take can be repeated. A wedding cannot. When wedding transport fails, it does not produce a bad journey, it produces a gap in the photographs and a ceremony that started with the couple stressed, and neither of those can be fixed afterwards.

The classic failure is the informal arrangement. A relative offers a car, the offer is accepted in March, and in September the car is unavailable, unwashed or too small for the dress. There is no written booking, so there is no fallback either.

The second is the timing gap between ceremony and reception. Couples book both venues and assume the journey between them takes the time a map says it does, without allowing for guests, photographs, traffic on the A470 or a venue entrance that a car queue cannot clear quickly.

### Mistakes we see most

- Relying on a favour rather than a written booking for a date that cannot move.
- Planning the day with no margin between ceremony, photographs and reception.
- Forgetting that the dress needs time and space to get into a car properly.
- Assuming one wedding car will also move the bridal party and the parents.
- Booking the venue twelve months ahead and the cars six weeks ahead.

## How a booking runs, from first call to the front door
Step 1
### Date check
Tell us the date, pick-up postcode, group size and rough timings. We check the vehicle against the diary and tell you straight away whether it is free, rather than leaving you waiting on an email.

Step 2
### Journey plan
We map the run: where you are collected, which stops you want, how long you need the vehicle and where the night ends. Anything that affects timing (road closures, match days, venue drop-off restrictions) is raised now, not on the day.

Step 3
### Written confirmation
You receive the booking in writing with the vehicle, date, pick-up time and return arrangement set out, so everyone in the group can be told where to stand and when.

Step 4
### Pre-hire preparation
The vehicle is cleaned and checked before it leaves us, and the driver is briefed on your route and your stops so nobody is reading a postcode at the kerb.

Step 5
### On the day
Your chauffeur aims to arrive ahead of the booked time where traffic allows, so there is room for photographs before you set off. You travel door to door and are returned to the agreed address at the end.

## What you get out of hiring the open top wedding cars

### Photographs that hold up
An open car gives the photographer a subject that works in every frame taken around it, at the house and at the venue.

### A day built around your timings
Ceremony time, photograph time and reception transfer are planned together, in writing, before the day.

### Chauffeur driven throughout
Nobody in the family is driving, parking or worrying about the route on the one morning that matters.

### Works with the rest of the fleet
Pair it with a limousine or party bus so the bridal party and guests travel on the same plan.

### Prepared before it leaves us
The car is cleaned and checked before it arrives, and the driver is briefed on your route and venues.

### Dates checked in one call

## Open Top Wedding Cars hire in detail

### How wedding car timing actually works
A wedding car booking is really a sequence of three journeys and two waits. The first journey collects from the house and delivers to the ceremony, usually arriving deliberately a few minutes late for the bride and early for everyone else. Then the car waits through the ceremony. Then it takes the couple away for photographs, waits again, and finally moves them to the reception.

Each of those waits is the part couples forget to plan. The car cannot be two places at once, so if the same vehicle is also expected to bring the bridesmaids from a hotel, that has to be built into the sequence explicitly. We work the whole shape out with you when you book, which is why we ask for ceremony and reception times rather than just a collection time.

### Ceremony venues, access and where the car stops
Cardiff and the Vale have a wide spread of wedding venues, from city hotels with forecourts to village churches on single-track lanes and country houses with long gravel drives. Each has its own constraint: a forecourt that a hotel keeps clear for taxis, a lychgate with no vehicle access, a gravel turning circle that gets churned in wet weather.

Tell us the venue names when you book and the access question is resolved weeks before the day, including where the car will stand during the ceremony.

### Dresses, weather and the practical details
Getting into a car in a wedding dress is a two-person job and it is worth the thirty seconds it takes. A chauffeur who has done it before helps; a relative in a hurry does not. The same applies to flowers, veils and anything that must arrive uncreased.

On weather: the roof goes down when conditions allow and up when they do not. Photographs beside a stationary open car are often possible even when an open drive is not, so a wet morning does not automatically mean losing what you booked the car for.

### Coordinating cars with the rest of the wedding transport
The couple's car is only one part of the transport plan. Bridesmaids, parents, older guests and anyone staying at a hotel all have to reach the ceremony and then the reception, and it is usually the guest movements, not the couple's, that run late and hold up the receiving line.

Because we run party buses and 8- and 16-seat limousines alongside the wedding cars, the whole plan can be built as one timetable with one point of contact, rather than three suppliers who have never spoken to each other.

Based in Cardiff, we collect and drop off nationwide, so tell us where you are starting and where you are heading. You can see the full fleet and services or start from the home page.
